I know I'm probably going to catch hell for saying this, but aside from the Model 41 rimfire, and the Model 52 .38 Match Auto, (which is no longer in production), I wouldn't have a S&W auto pistol rammed up my ass. They make fantastic revolvers, and always have. When they design and build semi autos it's like the whole damn factory went out and got drunk first!
Look at all of the 4*** series. They were changing the design every fifteen minutes, and the damn thing had more parts than the Space Shuttle. The Sigma was a total joke that never went anywhere except into court. I think the charge was trying to impersonate an auto pistol. Now they come out with this M&P Model that started out with a whole slew of slide rusting issues from poor finish application, and is now plagued with what seems to be every problem known to man.
Smith & Wesson had the same opportunity as Springfield did to purchase the rights to manufacture the HS-2000 from I.M. Metals. Of course they didn't and Springfield did, and we all know where that led. The XD is a smashing sales success, and Smith & Wesson went out and got drunk to see what fiasco of a design they could come up with next to compete with Glock. They keep floundering with no end in sight. It's hard to believe they can design and build such wonderful revolvers, then turn around and come up with such crap in a semi auto. It's frustrating to say the least because I like the company. Bill T.
