Hate to be a downer Jay and I'm sure glad you're OK but, in most states, a drunk drivers insurance company won't cover anything the drunk does while driving under the influence.  You may have to sue the asshole in civil court to get back any damage he's caused.  NJ may be different but I doubt it.  To expound further, insurance companies will not cover the individual while that person is performing an illegal act such as drunk driving.

They, (Police), don't want to lock up drunk drivers. They are way too big of a cash cow to the courts of this country. If you are a bum with zero dollars, they'll throw the book at you. If you are a professional they will simply keep you on the road, take their chances, and keep bilking you out of thousands in fines. It is not in the interest of public safety. But like so much else is in the interest of the almighty dollar.  Bill T.
