In Trouble Again. S&W 629
« on: June 28, 2011, 04:27:27 PM »
Been watching the auctions and accidentally bid a little too high on one.....crap I won.

It's a 629-1 classic with un-fluted cylinder.   For my first 629 I think it's a good catch.   I paid a little more than I wanted to, $600.   I probably could have got it for $575 maybe $550.    But considering others want $700 or $800 or more I'm don't have buyers remorse.   Problem is there are some really neat ones out there up for auction.  There's a slab-sided hunter with ported 7.5" barrel for $607 and a 629(no dash) with pinned barrel and recessed cylinder for $515.   Of course they may end up going for a lot more than that.     How do I talk the wife into letting me bid on 2 more?    The no dash would go well with my M66(no dash) which also has pinned barrel and recessed cyl.

Sent the money and FF off today so it'll be late next week at the earliest before I see it.

I think you did OK.  My 629 is the most accurate .44 Mag I ever owned.  I love it.

For those with more money that I,

Here's the link to the slabsided 629 (.44 Mag).   I just think it looks really cool.   You'd definitely catch everyone's eye on the range with this sucker.  36hours left on the auction.  This one could go near $800.

Let's see if AuctionArms will let me link in a picture

And if you want the original 629 (made 1981-1982) here is the link.  It'll probably close at less than $600.

You can get folks attention just by firing factory magnum ammo. At least the guys on the next table will certainly notice!

I had one of those, as well.  (6-1/2 inch barrel Model 29).  Sold it to get money to buy the wife's engagement ring.  Can a man love a woman more than that?

You are definitely smitten! I can think of a lot of guns that I would get riid of for my wife but a 29/629 isn't one of them.

The 629 original model went for a little over $700 !  Wow.

And, I was toying with putting in bid on the slab side below, but it turned out it was way too rich for my blood.  $937 !!!

The largest I've shot at my indoor range was my T/C 10" barrel with .357 Max.   Not only did some people put in plugs along with their ear muffs, but the guy next to me put on dark glasses. ;D   Talk about lighting up an indoor range.

Part of me really really wants a 460, but checkbook side of me says there's so many other things I could be buying.

A 629 classic hunter?   A FN FNAR?  A Tikka Varnmint 260Rem with silencer?  A 625 in .45ACP?  In .45 LC?   A 627 with .38Super cylinder?   So many choices, so little money.   I'm adoptable you know.
