I'm not sure why this is a big deal anyway. There are a lot of "back stories" concerning our founding fathers. There are a lot of "fables" as well. None of which diminishes the historical significance of what they did.
I'm currently reading a book about some of this history, which I'll review after I finish. One of the things I find fascinating is the lengths some of the founding fathers went through in trying to preserve Indian sovereignty. The history of the Creek chief, McGillivray is fascinating. Had Washington succeeded in granting the Creeks foreign country status, I could have grown up in another country. The Ogeechee river, where I spent my childhood in GA, would have been one of the boundaries between the US and the Creeks.
