For an 1 1/2" diff. for over $600?

Get a standard, abuse it, spank it, and call it Sally, for much less.....

Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."

Lets see, extend the sight radius by making it big and ungainly (and maybe screwing up the action with the extra weight), or just getting better sights, practicing more, or putting on a laser? Which of these choices makes the least sense? ::)

Long slide Glocks aren't exactly new arrivals.
You can say lots of bad things about pedophiles; but at least they drive slowly past schools.

No, but they (and long slide 1911s etc) just have always seemed kind of silly. What kind of accuracy boost does an extra inch or so buy you that you can't compensate for with a good set of sights and save the weight and bulk?

Good sights can never make up for increased sight radius. The same reason most people don't shoot 2" snubs as well as 4" revos. (not crappy J frame sights - real K frame snubs like a M19)
Increase the sight radius AND have good sights and you're gold.  ;)

You're caught in a carry Glocks vs range Glocks hole.
While long slides won't carry for $hit, they can sure shoot the hell outta paper which is the intended purpose.

A while back we were talking about a company, Lone wolf IIRC, offering a longer ( 7 in ? 71/2 in ?  ) Barrel and slide with Eotech type optic for the 10MM G-20 . One of the reasons given was to make it a better hunting handgun.
The idea is no less practical than a long barreled , scoped revolver.

The problem with the 17-L is it won't fit into the IDPA "box". So in that regard you're better off with the Glock 34. Cheaper too. The 34 sells like hotcakes, and is one of the most popular pistols in IDPA. The 17-L is a limited production gun because the demand is low except for bullseye shooters. They are becoming a vanishing breed. Everyone today wants to play Action Jackson with their guns.  Bill T.

So what ? That is not it's purpose. As I posted before, it is aimed at marketed for  hunters who couldn't care less about "the IDPA box".
