Just saw this headline

Under Norway's liberal justice system, Anders Behrin Breivik, the suspect in Friday's twin attack that killed 76 people, faces a maximum prison sentence of 100 days per victim, which has sparked an outcry in the country.

100 days for murdering someone.......3 months and a week or so......

Wait for the dust to clear, only 67 dead so far and they are lowering this as we type. Its all very cloudy why a natural born would kill the same in the name of Muslim exclusion, blows my mind.

If I knew I was facing a maximum of 100 days I would commit a murder or two.

I am seriously doubting the hundred day rule. Maybe that's if you were found mentally unfit or something? Otherwise, hell, ammo sales would be booming. ;D

Here is a link to the story with that headline:

http://www.foxnews.com/world/2011/07/25/calls-reportedly-grow-in-norway-to-extend-maximum-penalty-after-twin-attacks/

The story says he would get roughly 100 days per killing.   So it is likely longer than 100 days for a murder, but there might be a longer sentence for the whole crime regardless of how many were killed.   Or perhaps the longer sentences have to be served consecutively.  Might be 21 years for each murder.

Today's story indicates that there is another law that allows the state to lock up anyone convicted of being a danger to society for 20 year terms - renewable indefinitely.

Here's another one,

http://news.yahoo.com/lawyer-norway-terror-suspect-never-walk-free-130708680.html

Lawyer: Norway terror suspect will never walk free

OSLO, Norway (AP) — The defense lawyer for the man who confessed to the mass killings of government workers and Labor Party youth in Norway told The Associated Press on Tuesday that there's no way his client will walk free, saying Anders Behring Breivik's rampage was absurd and horrible and he's likely insane.

Geir Lippestad said at his first news conference that he considered the case for 10 or 12 hours before finally agreeing to take it because he felt the tragedy underscored the need to safeguard democratic traditions, like the right to defense counsel.

Later, in an exclusive interview, Lippestad said that the court must decide whether Breivik will be sentenced to prison or psychiatric care — but he will never be released.

"It's not a question of whether he will be set free," the lawyer said. "He has confessed to the facts of the case, so that goes without saying."

Belief in the right of all defendants to have counsel is the reason John Adams defended the British troops accused in the Boston Massacre. It is worth noting that he won acquittals for all of them .
