Pegleg is the man!
This was a first for me. I have shot competion and been a range or safety officer at matches but this was an UN-competion.
Rockcastle is about 30 minutes north of me and Nick Noble asked for help from members of local clubs.
I was on Stage 6 of the lower shotgun course, if that gives you an idea of the size of the place. My very first shooter was Eric Lund and the FNH squad. It was nice to meet him and the rest of their pros. I didn't take a squad picture with them, as starting of the day is always a bit hectic.
Most of the shooters were just there for a good time and not sporting clays shooters. To be honest, some sucked but they seem to still have a great time.
I only had 4 shooters run my stage clean out of about 220, Doug Koenig was one of them. The Midway squad looked to be the best on a sportings clay course from my tiny view of the event.
Greg Lapin was explaining the lead to another VATA buddy as, " one mil left". I never heard lead explained like that on a sporting clays course but when I told the Blackhawk! team that they seem to understand it. Todd Jarrett did well shooting with them.
Kay Miculek came back and help coach a team of young shooters around the course. She is a class act and a great representative of the industry.
The shooters were great to the volunteers, very friendly and easy going. It was high 90's both days and I didn't have any crabby campers show up at my stage. The logistic train was well in hand as we had cold water, gatorade and iced towels all day long.
I hope the event comes back to Cave City next year.
