Ok, I bought a very nice Crossman 2240 .22 caliber pellet pistol from Alfsauve. Tonight I used it to kill a poisonous buffo (or cane) toad. One shot, one giant PITA of flushing out the dogs mouth from a watering can for an hour to get rid of the toxin taken care of. It was a big SOB too, softball sized and too arrogant to hop away. Oops! Bad move.
However, Alf's most excellent pistol has a plastic muzzle break. It looks very cool (veddy, veddy James Bond ). However it occurs to me that if one drilled some holes in the thing it might serve a different purpose. Thoughts?

Get a spare one and drill it, that way if it doesn't work you still have the original.

That looks like the same type of expansion chamber at the muzzle that Gamo uses on their "Whisper".

I've read this thread a couple times and am still confused.    

Right now you've got what looks like a "counter weight" on the end of the barrel.  For it to function as a muzzle break you'd want to drill holes or create slots perpendicular to, and PERFECTLY on center with the bore of the barrel or you'll ruin the accuracy of the gun by creating an uneven pressure area for the pellet to travel through (the pellet will be drawn off its path by way of venturi).  I'd be willing to bet by drilling these holes you'd also be making the gun noticeably louder when shot to...  As is the case with most centerfire weapons with muzzle brakes.  

A counterweight keeps the muzzle from climbing / reduces felt recoil by adding weight to the muzzle, and they look cool.

A muzzle brake reduces felt recoil and sometimes reduce muzzle climb by venting pressurized gas from the barrel to counteract "lift" created because the bore is off center with the stock / grip of the gun.

Now if you wanna make a home brew "suppressor" / "silencer" / "quieter dongle" / "whatever you wanna call it"...  I'd be inclined to never say anything of it here no matter how practical it is to have and fun it is to use...  This being a "Public" forum and all.    BUT, I don't think it would be illegal.  Because I believe air guns aren't classified as weapons in most states, or by federal law.  Sooooooo.....  UP TO YOU!
