Tom that story says a hell of a lot more about Douglas than it does LBJ. :-\ I'm not a fan of either, but MacArthur was always a political SOB who had a rep for playing favorites when it came to handing out medals, and often being damn petty about it. Look how he dissed t Army Colonel Fertig, who led the Filipino resistance. The guy never did get a medal or a promotion to General. Hell he's a hero at the JFK school for boys to this day, but Douglas didn't like him. ::)
FQ13  Who says MacArthur was a great man, but also a world class asshole.

At the time, Johnson was also a serving Congressman, having entered that body in 1937.
That is not made clear in the portion of the article I posted.
I won't argue that Mac was a renowned pr!ck.
