April 1st ammo goes up!!!!
« on: March 21, 2008, 01:39:11 AM »
I dont know if everyone got this, or wants to hear it.

All ammunition goes up 9% April 1st.  Some Federal tax thing, Im not sure.  I saw mention of it on here somewhere, but when  I went into the gun store today they confirmed it.  They said they just got the email this morning. :'(

Dear ATK Ammunition Customer:
Over the last two years and as we move into the second quarter of 2008 we continue to see
unprecedented raw material cost escalation in our business. As a result we are forced to
announce a price increase effective April 1, 2008. This will include a 9% increase in all
promotional ammunition and a 5% increase in other standard catalog ammunition products.
New pricing and programs will be communicated to you shortly.
We appreciate your understanding.

-- Kirk.

90%? I'm only reading 5-9% unless there's something I'm not understanding. Still, any increase is very bad news, I mean didn't they just increase the price very recently?

Fuzzy math?  I just ordered 400 rounds of .223.  If they can't get the guns they will go after the ammo.  Their reasoning...the 2nd doesn't say anything about ammo.

Go to the bank!

Ammo prices have sky rocketed the past 2 to 3 years. I bought 100 rds of 38 special 130 grain FMJ from
Winchester at Wal mart this past Monday afternoon and I paid $31.58 + tax. Ammo is like gold. You are
correct, the political left will go after ammo as a back door way of gun control.

I cannot keep up. Limited funds and a long list of things I need to buy including an updated reloading press.

Anyone have any suggestions on a auto progressive press?? Horandy or Dillon?

Thanks
Donald

Coltfan

I like my Dillon 650 a lot. I am going to get the automatic case feeder so I can keep up with it. It is great for .357 SIG and .45 reloading. And Dillon's customer support service is very good indeed. I always get good advice from the Dillon.

Now I am going to have to get the dies for .223 / 5.56 and 9 mm as well.

The 650 really cranks the rounds out so fast that I only reload about once every 2 months or so, because I can build up the stock so fast. BTW I shoot at least 100 rounds of each a week. I didn't bother to reload .223 and 9 mm until now because they could be had cheap -- not any more.

The big problem now is finding enough bullets when I want to load up. I haven't ordered primers in a few years. I buy primers in quantity through the club. I have started buying some bullets each time I go to the gun shop. Sort of in line with MB's suggestions on large cap magazines.

You can use the same powder for the pistol that you use to reload your shot shells if you choose carefully.

I have learned lately that it is not all about price but also about availability.  I was at the store, and the shelf was full of .223.  I took all I could afford plus an extra $100 worth (one way to diet).  When a friend saw what I had picked up he asked if I found a good price.  I just told him I found it.  Too often over the last year the ammo shelves have been bare.

I was at a National chain store and picked up some match .22 to use.  I had had a hard time finding it and they had 3000 rounds.  They asked how much I wanted, and I took it all.  When I was back there six weeks later they had none.  The salesman told me that they hadn't had any come in since I cleaned them out.

SAVE  YOUR  PENNIES  AND  BUY  ALL  YOU  CAN  WHENEVER  YOU  FIND  IT !!!

I just talked to my dealer here in the Denver area. He said the 90% figure was way out. The 5-9% is more typical and has been so for the last year. The raw materials, i.e. lead, steel/copper, powder are all going up. Just like everything else in this world getting out of control. Guess we can expect more in the future.
