As the former chair of a municipal utility that is part owner of two coal fired plants I have become a prime candidate to overthrow government!
We successfully doubled the size of one plant at Nebraska City, Nebraska in a way that the larger plant is putting out less pollution than the original did while producing less than half the electricity it does now. We were trying to do the same in South Dakota and after our group of utilities spent millions to gain all permits the project was stopped.
At the same time that the clowns, I use that term because that is how they dress when they protest (rainbow afros, blue capes with an orange sun and windmill that looks like a peace symbol, and blue spandex), are using permits to construct power lines as a way of stopping all coal plant expansion and operation. They say we need to develop wind in southwestern Minnesota. Great, we are doing that and it is working well except that most of the ownership is milking the subsidy that is not needed and sending it overseas. These idiots forget three things: 1. you must have baseload power from a reliable constant source to make the power lines work, and intermittent wind does not provide that; 2. Wind does not blow all the time, so you need reliable baseload to carry the demand two thirds of the time; and 3. You still need the power lines to carry the wind turbine power even if you don't want coal.
The Twin Cities metro area is one area fighting this the most, and they are the largest users of power. Does anyone at the Metro Dome understand the meaning of an off switch. That dome glows from interior lighting all night every night, or at least whenever I am up there. Decorative lighting, safety lighting, electronic gadgets - you name it they have it. When I am going to meetings up there I put a note on my steering wheel reminding me to turn on my headlights, because I am guilty of leaving them off. It is so bright you don't need them unless a cop spots you

Until the sheeple realize that you can not both live without power plants and have power we will live with stupid rules like CAP and Trade. The liberals will say it is our social duty to pay the reasonable fees, and the government will tell us that the whip is the only way to teach us. Remember what happened to the Egyptians when the ruled by the whip? The V.P. A. Gore energy plan is just like the Pres. BHO economic plan - it all grows on trees and miraculously appears every spring from ... Oh I don't know where, but it will always be there
