Vega pleads guilty on gun ring charges

Former Columbus, N.M., police chief Angelo Vega, who remains in federal custody, pleaded guilty to conspiracy as well as new charges of aiding in the smuggling of weapons and extortion under color of official right before U.S. Magistrate Court Judge William P. Lynch.

The defendants

Former Police Chief Angelo Vega, 40, of Columbus, N.M., has pleaded guilty to aiding in the smuggling of weapons and extortion under color of official right.
Former Mayor Eddie Espinoza, 51, of Columbus, N.M., has pleaded guilty to three counts of firearms smuggling, three counts of making false statements about acquiring firearms and conspiracy.
Former Village Trustee Blas "Woody" Gutierrez, 30, of Columbus, N.M., has pleaded guilty to 19 counts of firearms smuggling, 17 counts of making false statements in connection about acquiring firearms and conspiracy.
•Alberto Rivera, 40, of Columbus, N.M., has pleaded guilty to nine counts of firearms smuggling, nine counts of making false statements about acquiring firearms and conspiracy.

Do you mean to imply that there may be some elected government officials who are less than honest? I AM CRUSHED! How can this be?

Well they're way down yonder and a little town and all........this would NEVER happen at any higher level than that!

No argument here. Who needs an army when you can just wade the river and get welfare? :P
I posted this before, but it seems appropriate now, particularly since Villa's raid was about getting revenge on a gun dealer who screwed him on some Tommy guns (among other reasons).
