An ode to Bond Arms
« on: August 29, 2011, 10:14:50 AM »
I just got my new (to me) Texas Defender in .45/.410. I am amazed by the quality of the thing. The only problem is that its in too good a condition. In fact either the guy who sold it to me was seriously anal retentive about cleaning his guns, or its never been fired. I'm betting on the latter. Down side to that is that its a beast to cock. It takes two men and a boy. I called Bond to ask about this. They gave great advice. Shoot the hell out of it, play with it with snap caps and leave it cocked. If that fails they said they would change the springs out for their competition springs, but recommended against it for SD. While on the phone I mentioned that I missed the extended grip I had on my last one, but I couldn't afford a new set at $70-$100 a pop. "No problem", says the guy I was talking to, "we have two pair that were marked as blemished. Black Ash or Rosewood with an inlaid silver star, how about $30"? Given that these grips go for $100, I said yes very quickly.  ;) You can not beat the CS these guys provide. I love the gun, love the company and cannot recommend them enough.

Darn.
I have no interest in owning a derringer, why have 2 shots when you can have 5, or 6.
But all the good things I here about this company, with no bad comments at all, makes me want to buy one anyway.

Just to add onto the Bond Lovefest,I called them about exchanging my .45Colt barrel for a .45/.410 and they told me to pack it up and send it in with $7.50 for shipping and they would swap it out no problem.

Its kind of like me and Moisins. I don't want one and don't need one, but sooner or later one will follow me home. ;D Seriously though, as a machinist, if you ever hold a Bond you will steal it if you have to. It is a work of art in metal. Its like someone took a solid block of stainless steel and carved a pistol out of it with tolerances so tight you can't fit a piece of paper between the barrel and the reciever and an action like glass. As a craftsman you will love one of these Tom.

Yes, you are.
I don't even want one but with CS like that, it speaks volumes about the company. Maybe it's time to do some searching....
