XD(m) vs XD
« on: September 04, 2011, 02:59:39 PM »
With this new promo going on from SA I am strongly considering an XD(m) here in the next few weeks. I have had XDs and hated the way the slide is shaped with the step between the bottom and top of the slide. I could never get a good grip on the slide. From my understanding the new XD(m)s are extremely well made and exceptionally comfortable to shoot. What are your impressions of the gun versus it's predecessor? I really want a 9mm 4.5" but I'm curious if they are worth the investment. Since I picked up my SA Loaded 1911 I've really been rethinking the XD(m) to make as my stay home bedside gun. Also thinking about it for practical shooting as well. Thoughts? Please avoid bashing where applicable. (haha)

I don't have an XDm, yet.    I had the Service model XD 9mm for a while then traded "up" to the XD Tactical 4.5".  I had it in both 9mm and .40 but traded the .40 in since it is no advantage in production competition.

I've had no problem with the slide or anything else.   Like a lot of things, until you get your hands on them side by side, it's hard to really appreciate the differences OR, not care about the differences.     As soon as I can get the XDm 525, I'll let you know what I think about the two side-by-side.

One thing, Springfield did seed a lot of ranges with rental guns, especially the new 525.   Might check with some of your local ranges and do a low cost trial.

I looked at the dealer list online but none of them are close enough to me.  I'm more or less wanting to hear the thoughts on the M from owners who have really put it to task. I know the XD is nit something I really want but the M looks like it has the changes I would want.

I have both  The XD in .45 with the 4 inch slide and the XDm .45 with the 4.5 inch.  I like them both but the XDm has a better shape to the slide for sure.  It's easier to grip than the squared off slide of the XD.  At take down you dont have to pull the trigger to remove the slide wich some say is a plus just in case you too sloppy not to check the chamber before cleaning.  I guess it is a good thing in case of a malfunction.  I still see it as only a small plus tho.  Just my two pennies.
Give me liberty or I'll get my guns and get it myself.

I traded my 4" .45 xd for a xdm .45 and couldnt be happier.  I like the balance of the xdm better.  The longer sight radius is a plus.  The trigger is better on my xdm than it was on the xd.  I like the grip texture better on the xdm.  The slide is better on the xdm.  I didnt like that step either.  The new slide is cleaner and easier to grasp.  If I could carry the xdm on duty I would.
I've got two guns, one for each of ya!
