Primary Arms Vs. Burris Reflex sights
« on: September 05, 2011, 06:09:17 PM »
I went to the range today to do a head to head comparison of the Primary Arms Micro Dot Reflex sight and the Burris Fastfire II Reflex sight. Obviously, these are not handguns, but are mounted on them, so I'm placing this here.

They are mounted on .22 lr pistols, the Burris on a Ruger Mk III, and the Primary Arms on a Browning Buckmark. Both pistols have Tactical Solutions, lightweight barrels replacing the originals. They were setup to compete in steel plate matches, and while I haven't had them out much lately, I did get the Ruger out Saturday. A great time was had by all.

The PA has a green dot, and Burris is red. The PA is listed as having a 5 MOA dot, and the Burris has a 4 MOA dot. But to my untrained eye, the Burris appears to have a considerably smaller dot, not as reflected in the specs. When  looking through them indoors, the PA and the Burris dot appeared to be not circular, more of a blob. The PA more so then the Burris. But, taking them out side, and that cleared up perfectly. I believe it is because the automatic adjustment doesn't adjust low enough for the indoor light.

Both of these dots were easily seen in bright outdoor, as well as dimmer indoor light. I feel that if you are looking for a precision sight for longer range, on a rifle, as an example, the Burris would serve you well. But if your needs are more for closer range, and precision is not as important, the PA would be better suited, especially at half the price of the Burris. Both would serve well on a competition gun for steel plates, but if looking for a bullseye sight, strongly consider the Burris.

The first two pics are the Burris, and the second two are PA.
