Yahoo news seems to have more definite news now.

http://news.yahoo.com/sheriff-man-opened-fire-nev-eatery-dies-191021793.html

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Authorities say the man who shot multiple people at a restaurant in Nevada's capital city has died of self-inflicted wounds. Carson City Sheriff Kenny Furlong says the man had a rifle and began shooting in and around the IHOP restaurant in a strip mall Tuesday morning. He wounded six people and killed two uniformed National Guard members and a third person.

Furlong says the gunman also shot himself and was transported to a Reno hospital, where he died. His name wasn't released.

Nevada National Guard Sgt. Mike Getten says it wasn't immediately clear if the man had any connection with the military or the Guard. He says Guard members were meeting at the restaurant.

Furlong noted the shooting appeared to be an isolated incident.

Officials say the state Capitol and Supreme Court buildings were locked down for about 40 minutes as a precaution.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A gunman with a rifle opened fire at an IHOP restaurant in Nevada's capital on Tuesday, wounding six people and himself and killing two uniformed National Guardsmen in a hail of gunfire during the morning breakfast hour, authorities and witnesses said.

A third person was killed in addition to the servicemembers, and the gunman was not expected to survive, said Carson City Sheriff Kenny Furlong.

It wasn't immediately clear whether the gunman had any connection with the military or the guard, said Nevada National Guard Sgt. Mike Getten. He said guard members were meeting at the restaurant.

Witnesses said a man pulled up in a blue minivan around 9 a.m. at the IHOP restaurant in a strip mall on Carson City's main street. He shot a man on a motorcycle, then walked inside the restaurant and started shooting, said Ralph Swagler, owner of Locals Barbecue in the same strip mall as the IHOP.

Swagler told the Reno Gazette-Journal that after several minutes, the man walked outside and began firing into the Locals Barbecue and an H&R Block in the strip mall.

"This happens in third-world countries, not here," Swagler said.

Fran Hunter, who works at a Sierra Le Bone, a pet shop just north of the IHOP, told the newspaper that the suspect fired at least two shots toward Casino Fandango across the street.

"I don't know what's happening to my city," Hunter said. "This happens in L.A. or Las Vegas but not here."

Local and state police and FBI agents descended on the scene, and yellow tape surrounded the parking lot at the restaurant, which is near a Kohl's department store.

Renown Regional Medicare Center spokesman Dan Davis told The Associated Press four victims of the shooting were being treated at the hospital in Reno, but he said he could not discuss their condition or provide any other information.

Kurt Althof, public relations manager for Care Flight, told the Gazette-Journal three victims had been taken to the hospital by helicopter and that two were in critical condition.

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Chuck Allen says extra security measures have been put in place on state and military buildings in northern Nevada as a safety precaution

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A man with a rifle opened fire Tuesday at an IHOP restaurant in Nevada's capital, killing two National Guard members, another person and himself in a hail of gunfire during the morning breakfast hour, authorities and witnesses said.

Six people were wounded in the attack. The suspect, who hasn't been identified, apparently acted alone, officials said. He died at a Reno hospital.

Authorities weren't saying whether the attack targeted the Guard members, who were meeting at the restaurant in a strip mall on Carson City's main street. But they believe it was an isolated incident.

Both Guard members killed were in uniform. One was a man; the other a woman, authorities said.

Witnesses said the gunman pulled up in a blue minivan around 9 a.m. and shot a man on a motorcycle, then walked inside the restaurant and started shooting. He then walked back outside and fired shots toward a barbecue restaurant and an H&R Block in the strip mall, and toward a casino across the street.

"I don't know what's happening to my city," Fran Hunter, who works at the Sierra Le Bone pet shop just north of the IHOP, told the Reno Gazette-Journal. "This happens in L.A. or Las Vegas but not here."

Carson City Sheriff Kenny Furlong said officers received a call about the gunfire and responded within minutes. He said the suspect was wounded and lying in the parking lot when they arrived at the scene.

Furlong added the person who was shot on the motorcycle also was alive when officers arrived, and was transported to a hospital.

The state Capitol and Supreme Court buildings were locked down for about 40 minutes, and extra security measures were put in place at state and military buildings in northern Nevada following the shooting.

"There were concerns at the onset, so we took certain steps to ensure we had the capability to embrace an even larger circumstance," Furlong said. "At this point in time it appears to be isolated to this parking lot."

Local and state police and FBI agents descended on the scene, and yellow police tape surrounded the parking lot at the restaurant, which is near a Kohl's department store. A body lay on the ground at the scene, covered with a white sheet except for the feet, which were in tan boots.

"As you know when you have people in uniform who are randomly targeted for whatever reason this may have been, it is a safety precaution we take very seriously," Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Chuck Allen said.

Renown Regional Medicare Center spokesman Dan Davis told The Associated Press four of the shooting victims were being treated at the hospital in Reno, but he said he could not discuss their condition or provide any other information.

Care Flight spokesman Kurt Althof told the Gazette-Journal that three victims had been taken to Renown by helicopter and two were in critical condition.

Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, who is scheduled to speak in North Las Vegas on Tuesday, expressed sorrow over the shooting.

"I am deeply saddened by the senseless violence today in Carson City," Romney said in a statement. "My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families."

Other lawmakers who offered condolences to the victims' families included Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev.; Rep. Dean Heller, R-Nev.; and Rep. Joe Heck, R-Nev.

Does anyone know the ethnicity of the shooter yet?

The MSM will pounce or retreat depending on this....If it's a white person, pounce,....if it's a minority,....retreat....

From the picture I saw on Fox news, the shooter looked like he was Mexican.
"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your counsel nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." [Samuel Adams]

MSNBC has a couple lines about it that will be used in any sound bite to resatart the AWB:

Quote
The gunfire prompted Ralph Swagler, the owner of a nearby barbecue restaurant, to grab his weapon.
But when Sencion started toward him, Swagler backed away.
"I wish I had shot at him when he was going in the IHOP," said Swagler, who owns Locals BBQ & Grill. "But when he came at me, when somebody is pointing an automatic weapon at you — you can't believe the firepower, the kind of rounds coming out of that weapon."
...
More weapons in van
Officials were analyzing the assault rifle to determine whether it is automatic or semi-automatic. That shouldn't be hard, but will take WEEKS
Sencion left two more guns in the van — another rifle and a pistol, authorities said. Furlong said law enforcement agencies would continue investigating as they conducted searches through the night, although he did not give further detail or say where.
...
Sencion was born in Mexico and had a valid U.S. passport. He worked at a family business in South Lake Tahoe and had no known affiliations with anyone inside the restaurant, Furlong said. He was not in the military.

They will TOTALLY miss that the person that said it was probably a CCW holder that could have, although didn't, stop the shooting earlier in the timeline

It doesn't sound like he fired at Swagler ...just started towards him.

I wonder how Swagler knew how unbelievable the firepower was and the kinds of rounds coming out of it?

Did he fire upon Swagler and it is just not reported in this segment?

Also it's interesting Swagler was able to determine it was an automatic weapon just by having it pointed at him, but the officials are still trying to determine if it was.

Various reports have said that the guy took shots at the BBQ place and H&R Block nearby before shooting himself.

Most media outlets are saying it was an AK, of course it could have been a 10/22 for all they know.
Giving the guy the benefit of the doubt and a little basic firearms knowledge the power of the weapon is fairly certain, plus in a brief moment in time and with multiple rounds coming in your general direction I'm sure everything would be auto until proven otherwise.

I'm guessing that This guy Swagler may have seen the shooting of the woman by the motorcycle and concluded that the weapon was full auto from that.
There seem to be plenty of them just across the border in Mexico, and so far I haven't seen anything saying it wasn't.
Of course it's equally possible he is just a Fudd who thinks if it looks full auto, it must be full auto.
