Mossberg 930 SPX, Kaboom,....With Wolf Ammo. Sound Familiar?
« on: September 10, 2011, 03:52:05 PM »
Back in 08, when I dove into the DRTV forum, my first post was about the failure to cycle Wolf ammo in my Sig 556 rifle. I had a squib, and a subsequent cracked barrel. Not a kaboom, but close enough. Rifle went back to Sig, they determined a squib, NOT WARRANTY, took pity on me, and only charged me $100 for a replacement barrel/labor/shipping.

I saved the pic.

I even spoke to the Wolf Rep. at the NRA show, and he told me the rifle was not broke in enough... ???

Well, I know Wolf works in many firearms, but this time Wolf has offered to repair this Mossberg....
Kinda makes you go Hmmmmmm...

This video shows the aftermath of some faulty Wolf ammunition. A Mossberg 930 SPX was running Wolf slugs when one of the rounds squibbed. A “squib” is when the primer goes off but not the full charge and propels the projectile into the barrel but not out the muzzle, meaning the barrel is obstructed. The shooter did the usual malfunction drill and racked a new slug into the chamber, then fired. The pressure caused by the two projectiles in the barrel made the barrel rupture and split open. Wolf ammunition has since offered to refund the shooter for the ammo as well as pay for the repairs to the shotgun, but I don’t think I would ever trust a gun that has been fixed after an accident like that.

Moral of the story: If your gun goes “click,” check the cartridge to ensure it’s not a squib.

Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."

Moral of the story is friends don't let friends shoot Wolf ammo.

Apparently you have to have pieces fly off to qualify for 'broken in' to Wolf standards.  ::)

It wasn't the guns fault.
If the barrel is replaced, a new forend and nothing else is damaged, I'd be fine with it. It was as much the shooters fault as it was the ammo.
ANY round that doesn't sound right, recoil right or eject right is reason to stop and evaluate. Don't continue to pull the trigger, regardless of action type.
