Ruger brings back the SP101 .22 but this time it's an 8 shot

It looks like they got it right this time. I've got one of the 6 shot versions which is probably taken a big value hit with this. If it's not right at the $675 list I'll be getting one of these for sure: http://www.ruger.com/products/sp101/models.html

Too bad it's not available in .22 magnum.

It probably will be at some point. I wish they'd do an interchanging cylinder like Taurus did. I personally don't have a need for a .22 mag revolver since I already have one but the double action 22lr is great for shooting with the kids.

Why only 8 rds?

S&W 617 is available in 10 rds. Why did Ruger short themselves 2 rds?

Just wondering.

Weight!

 ;D

Frigging nearly two pounds of 22...  My 1911 weights four ounces less than that!

Drilling 2 more holes in the cylinder would have lightened it up some.   ;)

Physical size of the frame. TThe Smith 617 is built on the K frame. The SP 101  frame is somewhat smaller. I have both.

Good to see the return of the .22 SP. IMO I would prefer a shorter barrel for true kit gun portability/weight. The Magnum option would be a plus. And I'm still not sold on the durability of fiber optic sights. But Ruger is moving in the right direction and hopefully some of my personal desires for a .22 SP-101 will be addressed down the road.

Ruger is coming out with a 10 shot version of the Single Six, called appropriately enough....the Single Ten.  Bill T.

I have one of the original SP101 .22's and it is nice, but the sights leave a lot to be desired.   I like the looks of the new sights.  I don't think they could get 10 holes in the cylinder as the frame is closer in size to a J frame Smith as opposed to the larger K frame 17 or 617.  It's a little bigger and weighs a little more than a Smith 34 or 63.
