I'm not really sure what direction this article is spinning, but it seems to stop short of really going anywhere...

This is an article designed to scare the populace. 

The original title from the AP was "Police in rising arms race with crooks ".  The idea they are try to push is "The cops have to have 'super weapons' because they are so common among bad guys"

"High powered assault rifles" my a$$.  You, I and anyone that knows diddley about guns would not call a .223 'high power' and I won't EVEN go into the 'assault rifle' nomenclature BS.

This could be a hand out direct from VPC it is so biased and incorrect!
