I may catch some flak for this. the reason they get a last meal is because we are better then them. That way they have a full stomach when we send them to hell.

The tradition has been around for a couple thousand years.
Why did it start in the first place ?
The answer to that may have a lot of bearing on the question.

I doubt that all those cultures did it for the same reason, their beliefs varied to greatly.

A few years ago we (the public) were told that it was kinder to let a "brain dead" girl starve to death, rather than force her to live a lower quality of life, by feeding her through a tube. Wouldn't it be "kinder" to let a death row inmate starve to death rather than force them to live a less than ideal, quality of life on death row?
Children, pets, and slaves are taken care of. Free Men take care of themselves.
