And we have just heard from the realtors board and the contractors. "Stop zoning! Its a UN conspiracy!" ::) You are being played for a fool here Tom. I live Florida, land of suburban sprawl, endless strip malls, no public transportation worthy of the name, and hideous traffic compounded by never ending road construction. And did I mention that I, not the developer pays for that? This is on top of watching every green space turned into a strip mall or subdivision.  So I do think zoning, or smart growth or whatever else you want to call anti-sprawkl measures are a good idea. Developers don't. They want to pass their negative externalities (like the need for more roads or schools) onto the taxpayer. I think they should suck them up. They will do everything they have to to avoid paying their own bills, but screaming about a UN threat to our freedom and you thinking this is a call to arms? Dude, you are being played for a fool by TAB and everyone else in building trades. Now that said. zoning can be over done and it does cause problems when idiots are in charge, but as a basic principle anti-sprawl zoning combined with public transport makes sense economically, environmentally and as a matter of national security.

Thats not what the article you quoted referenced. I agree on the farm dust thing being BS. But, as your piece noted this Agenda 21 is voluntary, and what the authors are worried about is making sure that developers can pass costs onto the tax payers without being restricted by zoning regulations which have f@ck al to do with the UN, but they will threaten you with black helicopters if it helps them. >:(

This lovely organization is a part of this problem, I subscribe to their newsletter to keep up with their activities.

ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability is an association of over 1220 local government Members who are committed to sustainable development.  Our Members come from 70 different countries and represent more than 569,885,000 people.

ICLEI is an international association of local governments as well as national and regional local government organizations who have made a commitment to sustainable development.
ICLEI provides technical consulting, training, and information services to build capacity, share knowledge, and support local government in the implementation of sustainable development at the local level.
