Somehow, if my Grandfather wanted to be buried with his beloved rifle/pistol/guitar/wristwatch/jewelry etc,.., whatever,...it is a family matter, and should be honored, and a family decision.

Than a POS thief comes along,....

SEPTEMBER 26--A Wisconsin cemetery worker allegedly removed a valuable Fender guitar from the casket of a 67-year-old Army veteran who died last week and had told family members that he wanted to be buried with the instrument, which was his “pride and joy,” according to court records.

Steven Conard, a 39-year-old grounds worker at the Allouez Catholic Cemetery, was arrested Saturday and charged with felony “theft from person or corpse.” Conard, who plays in a band, reportedly confessed to stealing the Fender Telecaster when confronted at his Green Bay home by Brown County Sheriff’s Department deputies.

I  saw that on Drudge and just couldn't make myself read it.  POS is an understatement but grave robbery is nothing new.  Without boobytrapped tombs we would never have had Indian Jones  ;)

Magoo is right, this isn't anything new.
There was a reason that tombs, as far back as the pyramids, were booby trapped.

Some funeral homes (may be due to local ordinances ?) will not bury a person with valuables. I know one here locally who will display the body for viewing with whatever the family wants, but removes all jewelry or personal possessions before burial and returns it to the family.
However, if you are sly about it, items can be placed in a casket without anyone's knowledge   ;)  during the final family-only viewing.

M58 would be the authority on this but I believe the reason for that policy is so that funeral home employees are not tempted by the knowledge "it's going in the ground, no one will ever know".

I expect you are correct on that.
A particular item (of no real monetary value) went into my uncle's casket (about 5 minutes before they sealed it) without anyone's knowledge.
