Taurus buys Colt????
« on: April 01, 2007, 02:13:11 PM »
OK Michael, I see on your blog that you have heard a rumor that Taurus has bought Colt.  ::)  As tight as you are to the president of Taurus, certainly you'd be one of the first to know for sure........so......I'm guessing
April Fools!!!!!  The March 30th date of your blog entry is just a clever disguise.

Then again?

If you go over to Michael's blog and look at the comments section, Jim Shepherd from the Shooting Wire says this is not true. Personally, I think Colt will be sold at some point it's just a question of management coming up with a realistic price. Sure, the Colt name is worth something but Colt has let things gone for too long and there is too many other players in the market nowadays. Whoever buys Colt is going to have a long, uphill battle, to convince people their product is worth the name.

Yeah, well at least there would be offerings on the civilian market again.

Check out their website. They really don't offer anything to civilians anymore, just gov't.
http://www.colt.com/

Even the "Private Security" section refers to gov't contractors!!!

Even if you go to Coltsmfg.com (which by the way is not an intuitive site to go to like Colt.com is considering the name is Colt), basically all they are selling are 1911's, some revolvers and maybe an AR.

I would guess that they are making their bread and butter on selling M4's and M16 to the military. It is a crying shame that they stopped making the magnum carry. I would bet money that just a few CCW revolvers from them and a 1911 or two would sell today with more and more people getting their permits. I know, I for one would pay good money for a stainless Colt 6 shot Magnum Carry on a D frame.

I totally agree norfdet.  I was at my local gun store last night and he had a stainless  4" Colt Python in the case from the 70's.  It looked absolutely 100%, new and unfired.....I almost cried.  Easily the most beautiful revolver I have ever laid my eyes on.  $1,200....ouch.  This one may be calling my name if it doesn't sell soon and if the price is negotiable.  Does Colt still service these older revolvers, assumng they have a parts inventory?

Colt's probably not your best bet for Python parts. Maybe C&S...

BTW, although Colt is not for sale, has never been for sale, and will never be for sale, I hear the bids were opened last Thursday. There haven't been any announcements, and although I'm sure it's a totally unfounded totally worthless gossip, I hear Cereberus Capital, who just ponied up $370 million for Remington, came in with a late bid.
