Gunsmithing school projects..

Still very early days, but I am starting to get the items together for the three mandatory rifle projects I have to do over the next 2 years. I will also add some of the other projects that I will be doing as well as they will relate to firearms.

Project 1 is a .204 Ruger rifle based on a FN SPR action. Basically it is a pre 64 Winchester action. I received the action:



This rifle is being built for my wife and will have a composite stock. The optics have not been determined but as we are getting a really good discount from Sightron, it will be something in their line up.

Project 2 is really exciting. It is not one of the mandatory projects.

I am still negotiating on the selling price but will hopefully get this.



It is a A.H. Fox 12 gauge from 1920/21. It appears to be a CE grade with a single selectable trigger. There is a few issues though. Both the stock and the barrels (down to 24") were shortened at some point in time. It was working the last time the current owner used it but there were some small issues.

This is the kind of stuff I like to see.....the inner mechanics of the guns. I'm sure there are quite a few folks on here that will be eagerly awaiting the step-by-step progress (as in your other thread).

Good Luck on your prodjects! I wish I could afford to attend some gunsmithing courses like these. I took the "Gunsmithing at Home" courses and while they were good information, I never was able to do this type of projects because I lacked the equipment (mills, lathes, grinders).

Though I surely appreciate the modern firearms, nothing gets me more than an old double like the 21.  Someone, probably FQ made a comment about that a couple of days ago.  In the true sport of things, a fine American made double would be a dream for me and an A.H. Fox (still around BTW) is a damn fine grade of gun.
