WWI Fighter Pilot Pictures

I know I promised a lot of war stories from my dad, but the summer just seemed to fly by.  I'm finally digging through his stuff and here's my first "find".

Someone my Dad's family flew in WW I (Canadian).   Could have been a great uncle on his Dad's side, Sauve' or on his mother's side, DeLaunay.    Because of the small family we'll never know.  I found a small photo album with pictures from WWI.

Awesome Family history alf, Love The Flying Plumber Pic...and the pic of the SPAD...it was the F-16 of it's day, took a real pilot to fly those planes, and thank you for sharing...

Pssst....that plane is upside down, don't they know it doesn't taxi very well that way. ;D

Those are awesome.  How much story do you have on them?  
I loved digging into my grandfather's WW2 stories.

I have had the opportunity to dig through my grandpa's WWII pics, my cousin (history teacher) posted pics of my great-grandpa in WWI, my uncles pics of Vietnam, and when I was over in Germany I saw some pics a Blackhawk Chief had of the highway out of Kuwait.  My favorites are my grandpa's, B-27 navigator, flew with Jimmy Stewart for 8 missions, crashed, and flew 25 more.  He rarely talked about it, although he opened up a little when I got back from Germany-once.

Sadly, the history has been lost.   We didn't know dad even had these pictures until he passed away.  We have no close relatives who can possibly place these pictures. 

My sister and I believe they were take by a great uncle on dad's mothers side of the family (DeLaunay).  Not sure the airman pictured is even him.  The only name in the album, besides Struts the dog, was Ken Potter, which was written on the inside back cover.   So it could be these weren't  even taken by a family member but by a friend.  The original owner may have died in action and our family member kept the album.

I am turning these pictures over the to Great War Association, who may attempt to see if they can connect them with other pictures.

Those are priceless! Pilots those days had balls of brass. Not to mention severe cases of frostbite!

Hi;

     Before you let those pictures go -  why dont you contact a historian at Wright-Patterson AFB in Ohio and see if they can either ID some of those pics for you or get you in contact with some other historian covering that ERA ?

     I had a original Jap Map of Saipan captured/taken from a dead Jap and it was a hassle to get it into the   RIGHT   hands. I had a neighbor who was a WW2 Marine Raider, through his association it ended up at the Marine Corps Museum at Quantico,VA ( I think) Everyone wants you to donate and never tell you what it is worth or of its possible historical value     UNTIL    you release possession of it.
