Bugging Out Question by Huntsman
« on: November 08, 2011, 03:40:45 PM »
Sorry to butt in on your discussion but I'm new to this. I've never posted a question before and I'm not sure I'm doing this right so please bear with me. My question has to do with the Best Defense program. I own a gun shop. Most of my customers watch the show and we have some lively discussions in the shop. A question has come up we can't answer. In one episode Michael mentioned that there comes a point when you have to decide to hunker down where you're at ( home etc.) or bug out. Bug out to where? Since most of us don't have or own a hidden secret bunker where do you go? Most of the local population is going to be thinking the same thing or raising hell like idiots cause they didn't prepare themselves ( I was on duty during the L.A. riots which is why I don't live there anymore ). So if you decide to bug out where do you go? You don't want to follow the screaming idiots . You're going to have to worry about weather ( we live in the midwest now), security on the road/trail etc., food, water, setting yourself up for the near future and long term etc. A host of things. I realize we've got bug out bags , emergency supplies ready to go etc. but the question still remains, where? Any help?
If I appear taller than other men it is because I am standing on the shoulders of others.

Bugging out is a part of your planning.  You need to choose these options in advance.  Sometimes it will be family or friends out of the danger area, sometimes it will be dictated by the authorities, and sometimes it will be a secret hideaway or favorite place in the country.

Since this was a good question I answered it here.  However, I am going to start a new thread for you, and copy and past your post and my reply on there.

By the way - Welcome, and please go to the introduction thread and tell us about yourself!

m58, thank you for your help. I need help navigating around here. What is a "thread"? And how do I get to the Introduction thread?

Here is a link to the "New Member" intro thread.

When we say "thread", we mean each individual topic, located under each heading (AKA Board) on the main home page.

Example:
The DownRange Cafe` is a Board, and when you click on that board heading, you get an itemized list of topics (threads). They are listed based on activity, for the most part.

And don't be afraid to ask anything.

Welcome aboard.
"I expect perdition, I always have. I keep this building at my back, and several guns handy, in case perdition arrives in a form that's susceptible to bullets. I expect it will come in the disease form, though. I'm susceptible to diseases, and you can't shoot a damned disease." ~ Judge Roy Bean, Streets of Laredo

For the Patriots of this country, the Constitution is second only to the Bible for most. For those who love this country, but do not share my personal beliefs, it is their Bible. To them nothing comes before the Constitution of these United States of America. For this we are all labeled potential terrorists. ~ Dean Garrison

A thread is a topic.  As you look along the top of the subject or thread choices you will see blue buttons.  One is "New Topic"  Click on this button, and you will find a subject box for the title and then the message box you typically respond in to type your opening comments or questions.

Have fun!

P.S.
As Peg said "Don't be afraid ..."

We don't bite hard, and if you think we are biting hard just remember this gentle introduction  ;D

P.P.S.

Don't misuse the term "clip" around the cat  :o

A "thread? Well on a normal board its a topic that addresses a particular issue, say 15 year old home invaders or bugging out issues. Common courtesy says that one limits ones comments to relevant issues (for instance "hang the little bastard) or (here is what I keep in my bug out bag). Here however, a "thread" is merely a suggestion, an idea, a blank canvas waiting to be filled in. ;D You may learn everything you ever wanted to know on getting the hell out of Dodge, or we could wind up talking about home brew or some weird boutique caliber AR round. You pays your money and takes your chances around these parts. ;) To try to keep things on the "thread", give us a bit of a sit rep. Where are you, how many people are you responsible for and what kind of crisis are you looking to deal with? Zombies, a Hurricane, a power outage etc. How long do plan to be gone? A week until the authorities have it under control, or are we talking TEOTAWKI ( The end of the world as we know it, and no, we don't feel fine :P).
FQ13  (Tombogan certified Genius!) who will be happy to help ;D
PS I'm not being a smartass here. Its just that the quality of the answers are proportional to the quality of the question. You want to bug out. OK.
With whom?
To where (as in what part of the country)?
Why?
And for how long?
We need these details to give real answers.
I look foward to your post.

Huntsman, welcome to DTRV, from a fellow Iowegian.

Helpful hint:  It will help your sanity if you try to condense FQ's bellicose verbosity into something that makes sense.  Often easier said than done.  (Sorry, Prof, I just couldn't resist.)  ;D

FQ13 (TomBogan certified genius) who expects a a cabinet position under your administration. And for the record I am not bellicose, merely verbose. ;)
