3 Tasmanians Arrested In Idaho On Elk Poaching Charges
By Andy Walgamott, on November 8th, 2011
(IDAHO DEPARTMENT OF FISH AND GAME PRESS RELEASE)
More info from the Idaho Statesman:
Idaho Fish & Game spokesman Evin Oneale said the men have been suspected of hunting-related crimes for numerous hunting seasons.
“Things finally came together this year for us. The investigation remains ongoing,” Oneale said Monday via e-mail.
Three Australians suspected of poaching were arrested last week on multiple charges and later booked into the Elmore County jail.
Eleven charges have been filed against the men, with a combined bond set at $165,000.
Anton Kepeller, 58, Darren Tubb, 43, and Samuel Henley, 18, all from Tasmania, Australia, were contacted and later arrested by Idaho Fish and Game conservation officers on Thursday, November 3, near Atlanta. The following day, the three men appeared in court before Elmore County magistrate Judge David Epis, where formal charges were read.

KTVB IN BOISE POSTED THIS IMAGE OF THE SUSPECTS. THE STATION REPORTED THE IMAGES CAME FROM THE ELMORE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE.
Kepeller faces six misdemeanor counts, including possession of unlawfully taken elk, and aiding-counseling the killing of elk during closed season. Tubb was charged with three misdemeanors, including killing a bull elk closed season, wasteful destruction of elk, and transfer of a tag. Henley faces two charges, including attempting to kill elk during closed season and use of a tag of another.
Epis set bond for Kepeller, Tubb and Henley at $75,000, $50,000 and $40,000 respectively. He also added special conditions to the case, requiring the three men – should they bond out of jail – to appear for a bond hearing and not leave the state of Idaho.
The investigation continues, and more charges could be filed in the future.

On the flip side, there is this, its not an Aussie pride thing,  because its a Kiwi holding the flag in Idaho/Montana and making y'all look good.I figure that a bit of Anzac solidarity would work.  Anyway, its a restaurant review for one of the best  cheap restaurants in America, run by a white half Maori woman in West Yellowstone Mt. (100 yards from Idaho) The woman makes Buffalo pasties (for about $8) that are worth killing over. If I thought she was straight, I'd have proposed and never left the joint. Seriously, I had foodgasms at this place. I gave up a fishing trip to do a return trip for lunch. Let's think about this, I flew to Montana to fish and decided I'd rather eat in a diner than catch trout? All I can say is that this woman can do things with buffalo and elk that I can't describe.;)

Dude, What the hell does that have to do with Aussies bagged for poaching elk ???

On the topic I have to wonder if there is more to the story.
I mean, who would save up there money to fly half way around the world in the wrong season ?
If they did enough research to find out where Idaho is one would think they would keep going to find the best time to get there.

It has to do with the fact that its God's country and all sorts of refugees and ex pats wind up there (I would be one if I could take the cold :-\). As far as the poaching? Maybe they were selling to the Chinese medicinal trade, maybe they just wanted an Elk by whatever means, and maybe they wound up on the wrong side of a Fish and Wildlife sting. Things get weird when it comes to killing large animals out west. People do strange things.

She didn't glue them to her tits Tim, they were like an empanada. ::) ;D A meat pie with thyme, rosemary, wine, stock and God knows what else, all in a flaky crust. I couldn't  get enough. She was gay, pear shaped and had a bit of an acid tongue. I still would have proposed. The food was that good.

It's not the cold that stops me, (I live in NH fer crying out loud  ;D  ) There doesn't seem to be any real variety in the trees out there.
Here we use different woods for different purposes, except for Polar, (similar to Aspen ) which has no real use.
Out there seems to be nothing but Pine, Spruce, and useless Aspen.

Sorry, (for once) no misspelling on my part. Pasties refers to an English style meat pie. Its spelled correctly.

FIFY. People in the west know how to live with and off the land. It is the know-it-all interlopers we have trouble with.

Once again, you appear to have read the title, gotten all squishy overs some reminiscence, and completely missed the point of the OP.

Idaho Fish & Game spokesman Evin Oneale said the men have been suspected of hunting-related crimes for numerous hunting seasons.

"I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted, I won't be laid a hand on. I don't do this to others and I require the same from them"
