That is why I lurk. But on the other hand, if you buy an encore pistol, it can later be made into a rifle, If you buy the rifle you cannot later make it into a pistol. I know Michael made exception to this on my previous post about the Ruger charger, but the Supreme court ruled on the TC carbine conversion for the contender, The atf claimed it was a kit for a short barreled rifle and therefore under NFA rules. The SCOTUS, ruled differently. Neither Knights or CVA have a pistol option.
That may no longer be the case, My understanding is that ATF just said "oh fu$& it, do what you want"(Probably worded diferant

) I was working there back in the late 80's when T/C had 2 things going on that drove ATF nuts, Carbine conversion for the Contender, and the .45/ .410 barrel, for a while ATF made them stop producing ANY .45 cal cartridge barrels. (Did not affect black powder) When I worked there in '01 - 04 you could buy JUST the Receiver, and mix and match the rest. I don't know if that is still true since S&W bought them.
PS DON"T WASTE your money on those "barrel stubs" and unblued / unfinished receivers that you see at gun shows on ocasion, They are rejects and scrap, good for nothing but paper weights. That is not opinion, they got taken home by some one who did not want to have to fill out the scrap tag, and then they dumped them on some one who was going to a gun show. Those things may only be available around here though.
