alternate power sources

I was looking at the Midland crank powered base camp radio, I LOVE THE IDEA, however I read some reviews and they were not good at all!!!

So I was wondering if someone could direct me to some types of portable sources of altenative power?  I have seen some of the fold out solar thingys but solar poses its own problems.  Really what im looking for is something to charge my 2-ways, and GPS.  If I can get the weather it would be great.

Lots of companys making inverters that plug into your cigarette lighter in your car.   They were very well for low amp draw devices.  Jump boxs also work well.

If your out camping there are a lot of solar devices (lights) that are very reliable that will also charge you phone, GPS, etc.  I have  2 panels from Harbor freight  that will more than do the trick for you they cost about $230.00 but are on sale right Noe for about #170.00 and they are made to work in low light. Solar has  gotten way better and cheaper. And some of the lights can be bought believe it or not a Wally World.

I've been using a Black and Decker "Power to Go" unit.  It's a battery and inverter in a package about the size of a CB radio. Mine produces 20 Watts at 115VAC.  I think they were also making a larger unit.  Also has a USB port to charge devices using that method.
