Fort Lauderdale gun show worth while?
« on: November 23, 2011, 08:20:40 PM »
After getting exited about my local range (Shoot straights) low price on J frames, to at least fondle though probably not buy, I was given bad news. The Ft. Lauderdale gun show is this weekend and they will be down there with the cheap stuff. I have never been to this one. However, my experience with gun shows the last few years has been less then positive. Drive to the show, pay the admission fee after waiting in line, and see a bunch of stuff at "special gun show prices" that's about a 10% markup over what its worth. Even the guys walking around with a sign advertising FTF sales (the real draw for me, don't tell Chuck Schumer) seemed to be lacking. Anyone been to this show? is it worth a 45 minute drive and the fee?

Your best bet would be a PM to TW.

Uh, Hello,....McFly,.....I go to every one,...if nothing else but to haggle over M1 Garand Clips, and camel/horse trade with the sellers.

The last bastion of negotiations over price is at the Ft. Laud Show,....Unlike the WPB or Miami show.

Co-worker wanted an LCP earlier this year...First dealer, $329, Second dealer, $319...Third dealer $299.....Fourth dealer $279.

All at the same show...Horse trading welcome....PLUS they sell beer...

The first round is on me FQ, I am going SAT. early....if for nothing else but M1 Garand clips and a box or two of 45 Colt...

The invitation is extended...Hope to see you there, PM me to rendezvous....

Would really enjoy it FQ. If you get the chance, do it and go.

You're pissing and moaning about a 45 minute drive to a gun show? Really? ? ? I drive that to the Fargo show (r/t) and more than double that to the Grand Forks show (much better than the Fargo show IMHO).

It's a gun show. Go. You never know what you may run into.

If they don't require you to check your sidearm at the door, go have a beer with Tom!

I suspect that you and he might just have a few things in common!

I wish you luck at the show tommorow TW. I got invited on a fishing trip so I will miss it. Too bad as I am looking at cheap hanguards. Frankly the way wind is blowing I'm not sure I'm making the right call on going offshore. The guys I'm going with are pretty hard core and when I would be only to happy to come inside and look for snook, they will still be racing from one spot to  another for sails and kings. Hopefully I won't be pissing blood the rest of the week. ;)

Lord I should have gone to the gunshow! I got a rare opportunity to go offshore today. Its about the time of year the sails show up, and they like the rougher weather. So, off we go at 0'dark thirty. Before sunrise the seas were kicking up 4' and it was getting worse. My hosts were not skeered, and we were out to 300', and then back, and then out. The seas rose (the wind at about 15 knts now and pushing 5' swells). No worries! The wind picks up further and the 21' Mako I'm in is looking awfully small as I can't see land and am soaked from the waves and spray. Not that it's bad as its a warm day, but still. Then, we get a fish, Its a very nice wahoo, but throws the hook at the boat (a Palm Beach release so its good). The wind continues to kick up, we are at 20 knts gusting (and the tiny ship was tossed :o ;D), so finally common sense prevailed. I was back home a little after 9 am. An interesting day, but another reminder as to why I prefer the backcountry and flats. I'm curious as to how TW and others faired while I was getting my ass soaked and tossed around.

Had a nice big breakfast, headed over to War Memorial, and waited a few minutes for the doors to open.....Nice East Wind,...15 to 20 and gusty...and gusty(er).......

I was thinking about you,...getting beat up by Poseidon and all,.......and remembering my younger days when I was hardcore about fishing regardless of conditions,.....Now??????? Nope...

It was a good show, good deal on 45Colt, M1 Garand clips, Some Argentine Mauser rds. and a Kel-Tec +1Mag extension. One nice Amber brew, and than went to Southport Raw Bar for a dozen raw oysters, and a Sam Adams.

So where's the fish? ::)

 ;D
