Problem with tax rebates is that if there wasn't enough tax involved to rebate, the free market would be working much better.

Any one notice that the Government gives a hefty rebate to buyers of the Volt from Government Motors?

The Volt commercial has made a lot of people notice.

Notice that they guy says he get 35 miles on his battery.    I wonder given the hills we contend with in Atlanta how much you'd get around here.

That is like a 3gal tank in almost any low mileage (13 mpg) vehicle and a 1.5gal tank on a 18 mpg vehicle.  It is like a 1gal tank on vehicles in it's 'niche'.....and for only $40k too.

The fellow who ran the now defunct Confederate Yankee web site has posted a summary list of the Volt "issues".

Here is the first on the list:

(1) The Volt owes its existence to the entirely fanciful greenie dreams and assumptions of the Obama Administration, and to no small extent, to its bullying and infusions of taxpayer cash.

The rest can be found here:  https://statelymcdanielmanor.wordpress.com/2011/10/26/the-chevy-volt-a-loss-leader-for-a-leading-from-behind-president/

Volt is like the Prius and every other "hybrid" or "Electric" car that has hit the market.
They sell for around $40K, but the actual cost is between $60 - 80 K with the remainder divided between Govt incentives and flat loss to the manufacturer.

I've often wondered how long the batteries will last in one of those things with our 115 degree Summers? I've NEVER gotten more than 2 Summers out of a car battery here.
