I was looking up local vets to see what, if anything, I could do around the holidays and I found this. Airman Brenda Jacobson, US Air Force. A home girl dead at 21 in Iraq in the Air Force. The song is a bit maudlin, but hell, she was a basically a teenager, she probably read the Twilight books, watched American Idol, and liked Harry Potter. Looking at her, you want to hug her and tell her its all going to be ok. I stand in awe of these kids. And it hurts when they fall. When they live down the street it hits harder. Believe me I wish I'd known in '05 when she died, but you bet your azz I'll be seeing what I can do for the family this year. This one hurt. She died six years ago, but stumbling on this web page was like a punch in the gut. I don't know why, but it really was the girl down the block. Please view her memorial page, she sure as hell deserves that. The song, well, it seems appropriate.
FQ13 who has come down with a severe allergy attack. Screw that. I'm just flat out crying over one of my neighbors who died too damn young, and I wish I could at least say thanks. That'll teach me to look up vets who might need assistance as my holiday charity. What do I find? A girl who breaks my heart. Here is what got me, the last quote on her face book page: "‘We’re only on earth for a little while, so live life to the fullest and carry a smile. ”
Lets all resolve to do something for a veteran's charity this holiday season. Its the least we can do.
