I'll bet the pilots on 9/11 would have liked to have ANY firearm in the cockpit.

Granted the cockpit is no place for a firefight, against hijackers with boxcutters,  I'll take a Raven .25 over nothing.

I personally think the idea of arming pilots is very, very bad.  Think about it for a second.   The cockpit of a plane is not some where you want to have a fire fight, also, if a fire fight were to break out, guess which direction the pilots bullets are going?   Then again, if you don't fly 1st class you don't have to worry about that. 

Don't get me wrong, I am a firm beleaver in every one( assuming they have decent training) being armed.   I just can't see a pilot being armed as a good thing.

Hmmm...Overpowered pilot flying into a building killing everyone on board or an untimely demise for one or two people with an errant shot?

How many Air Marshals to cover how many flights?  Our tax brackets can't afford that many paychecks.  And who will run it?...Homeland Security.

I'm not talking about shooting a hole in the plane, that will do very little to a modern aircraft.   Lots of other stuff it could hit that would be very, very bad.  In this day and age, firearms have no place in the passenger compartment of comm'l airliners.

The Israeli's would disagree with you, Not only are all their pilots armed they also have Air Marshals who use pretty much the same Fragible ammo ours do. Worst case with that stuff in the cockpit is it MIGHT crack a computer screen, all of which have back ups be cause airplanes are designed on the theory that crap happens. I don't know what TSA allows for ammo for pilots, probably +P FMJ, But thats because they are beurocratic a$$holes.
