I seem to remember a South Florida famous case, called the Miami-River Cops debacle.....Back in the 80's, there was just so much cash, so much cocaine, that even the drug dealers were raising red flags during arraignment.
Judge: "Mr. Sanchez, your charged with smuggling 100lbs. of cocaine, and in illegal possession of $50,000"."
Sanchez: " Your Honor,...I had over two tons of blow, and half a million dollars!!!!".
Eventually, they wondered how a $23,000 a year (back than), street cop, drove a Ferrari....Hence the Miami Vice series started.
But it happened, and is nothing new.....They know damn well "how the system works, how they "move" their money, and who the leaders are"....It involved the DEA, ATF, and local LEO's back than....
Why should anything be different now?
Another element of corruption against a failed War on Drugs, and personal greed and back room deals.
