Do you need new holsters if you add a Crimson Trace Light Guard?
« on: December 08, 2011, 09:16:00 PM »
After reading my last post, I really didn't make myself clear.  So here it goes again.

If you add a Crimson Trace Light Guard to your defensive pistol, do you have to buy new holsters?

Thanks!

Not if your holster will fit but I'l give 4 to 1 that it won't. You're adding about half an inch under the barrel. Got that knida room?

I presume you are putting this on something like a Ruger LCP, if that's the case you will need something more like a pouch than a fitted holster since you will have more of a flat square than a typical "pistol" shape.

I don't know the size of a CT light guard but if it's pretty small, smaller than a "normal" weapon light and your using kydex holsters it may be possible to heat up the kydex with a heat gun and slide the pistol in and remold it to the pistol with the light mounted. As long as there's enough material there it would work and if not heat it up again and mold it back to the pistol without the light. Just remember to use an unloaded pistol and if it's a polymer frame don't heat it up with the pistol in the holster. I've reshaped kydex holsters to fit over the smaller laser max units for a friend and I reshape kydex mag pouches all the time since I like mine with bullets to the rear instead of the front as most are made.

Thanks for the responses.  I have a Glock 23 and looking at the light guard, I don't think it's going to fit in my current holsters.  I just discovered that my local gun range sells Crimson Trace products.  The staff said, bring your holsters and lets try them out before you
buy!  Got to love that!  Problem solved!

Will let you know what I find out!

Cheers!
