So feeling a little paranoid yesterday.
Wife and i got home about 4:30, kicked off our shoes and where talking about the days events when suddenly the lights went out. No storms or winds. It just went off. Having read One Second After I started to worry. So I checked several battery powered electronics and they all worked. I cranked up a battery powered radio it was the typical drive time chatter. No mention of any wide spread power outage. We waited a little bit then I called the power company's robo-customer service, who said they were aware of the problem and hope to have it repaired in 3 hours.
About 6:30pm we had to get ready to go to my wife's office party and we dressed by kerosene lamp (I have several that I keep filled). I still wasn't sure how wide spread this was, or what we'd run into going to the party, so I packed the G23 with 4 mags.
Part of me felt a little foolish as we drove out of the neighborhood and saw it was only our block that was out. When we got home later that night power had been restored.
It made me realize that I'm not as prepared as I might like to think I am. Not so much in supplies but in that awkward period between the when "the event" happens and my awareness of its scope and breath.
