What is the Outdoor Channel Up To?
« on: December 14, 2011, 11:27:28 AM »
My appointments for today merged into yesterday and tomorrow, so I'm working on my list of gotta get dones at the desk.  I remembered it is Wednesday, and that means Wednesday night at the range.  A quick check of the schedule so that I can have guns blasting in the background revealed more hunting shows than every.  I enjoy hunting and fishing, but I also want gun and shooting shows!

What is Outdoor Channel doing to their programming?  Shooting Gallery is only on once, The Best Defense - Survival is only on once.  The advantage of these channels we pay for is that they run their shows several times so you get a chance to catch and enjoy them.  However, it appears that Mr. Bane pissed in someone's Cheerios up at the OC front office  :-\

Last time I was at home on a Wednesday I had Shooting Gallery, Best Defense, and American Rifleman rather than so much hunting during the afternoon hours.  Granted this is an exception in my day to be home on a Wednesday, but I remembered there being much more shooting in the past.

Now go back and get your sexitary's office finished  ;)

Marshal -

To the OP, please take a look at the list below with my notes. I used to watch Wednesday night for a solid 3 hours or more, now . . .

In short, Outdoor Channel has mucked up the schedule and perhaps even the shows themselves that I no longer make a point to put my channel on it and instead I watch another channel while DVRing the shows I want. Maybe Outdoor Channel does really think that they cannot afford to dedicate one block of time one freakin' evening a week to shooting SPORTS or SD, and instead insist on being a hunting channel with a little of the shooting sports thrown in for good measure.

MB has riffed on this quite a bit. We are seeing huge gun sales since bho got elected, and especially right now "for the Holidays". And they ain't Savages and Remington 700's flying out the doors either.

Outdoor needs to get its collective head out of its collective posterior, or their only viewers will be the Fudds who only buy a couple cases of shotgun shells each year. And maybe a new choke. Not exactly a high-demand demographic for advertisers.

Here is the unofficial lineup from December 28:

ON TARGET TIME BLOCK
4-7PM
4:00 Shooting Gallery - DVR
5:00 Best of Jim Zumbo - don't watch - Zumbo? Really? ? ?
5:30 American Rifleman - don't watch
6:00 Hunter's Specialities Outdoors - don't watch
6:30 Impossible Shots - don't watch - got repetitious the second episode, haven't been back much since then

AT THE RANGE TIME BLOCK
7:00 Border Battles - don't watch
7:30 The Best Defense - DVR
8:00 Shooting USA - don't watch - got lame a long time ago, esp. when Jr. joined the show
9:00 Shooting Gallery - DVR
10:30 American Rifleman - don't watch - a little Keefe goes a long looooong way
11:00 Border Battles - don't watch
11:30 Impossible Shots - don't watch
12:00 Best Defense - DVR
12:30 Shooting USA 1hr - don't watch
1:30 American Rifleman - don't watch
2:00 Shooting Gallery (1hr) - DVR

We, my wife actually, cut our cable plan back to save a few bucks a year ago,and it didn't affect any of her shows and I haven't been able to watch any of it  :'(

I figure with going back to school and a new position it would hurt to cut back on my TV time, but I just found other stuff to watch.  Guess it's time to have that arguement, since I'm getting a raise the first of the year  ;D
