Officer's Truck Full Of Weapons Stolen
« on: April 01, 2008, 08:22:51 AM »
PEORIA, Ariz. -- A police officer's pickup truck, loaded with the officer's personal weapons, was stolen Sunday night from the parking lot of a Peoria bar.

Peoria police said the El Mirage officer was at McDuffy's near the Peoria Sports Complex for about 45 minutes. When he came outside around 7:30 p.m., his truck was missing.

Inside the truck, police said, were two .40-caliber Glock pistols with 100 rounds of ammunition, an AR-15 assault rifle with five fully loaded magazines, a ballistic vest, police uniforms and IDs, flat badges and wallet badges.

Police said those are not the sort of weapons they want on the street.

"You anticipate most of the bad guys you come in contact with are going to have some form of weapon, but now we're giving them an assault rifle, which is a long distance weapon, and several pieces of ammunition to go along with it. Not to mention a ballistic vest, and it kind of gives them an advantage when we have to deal with them," said Peoria police Sgt. Jon Meck.

Meck said the weapons were the personal property of the El Mirage officer, who until recently worked for Flagstaff police as part of the special weapons and tactics unit. The officer has worked for El Mirage police for a few weeks.

Meck said the truck may be headed for the border. Police have notified Border Patrol agents and law enforcement across the state.

The vehicle is described as a white 2003 Ford F-350 with a slight lift and a chrome toolbox in the bed, with Arizona license plate CC-21638. Anyone who sees it is asked to call 911.

In NC, many LEOs have "thin Blue Line" decals and license plates on their personal cars. Sheriff's Association decals as well. The crime analysis guys at Raleigh PD have observed that private cars bearing any law enforcement identifiers get broken into with greater frequency. Crooks are not as dumb as we wish they were.

And the anti-gun Brady Bunch believes that only the police should have firearms,
because us dumb law abiding citizens can't be trusted with them.

Ohhhhh the power of words.  A truck full of weapons  :o  What do you picture?

Damn ... Two Glocks and an AR  ???

I carry more than that to a USPSA match.  What would ever happen if my truck was stolen while I was at a rest area along the highway.  Can you imagine the Peoria PD looking in disbelief saying you had what ... a 12 ga semi-auto that holds HOW MANY ROUNDS, what is a 170 mm mag and HOW MANY ROUNDS WERE IN THEM, you had how many magazines for that AR and it was sighted to HOW MANY HUNDRED YARDS, and WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU DOING WITH OVER A THOUSAND ROUNDS OF AMMO IN YOUR TRUCK?

OH  NO !!!  We also gave them a ballistic vest  :'(

If two to the chest don't stop them, what comes next .. oh yea ... one to the head!  Or did he steal a kevlar beanie with a prop as well?

I'm really sorry.  The spin on this story makes it hard for me to take it serious.  It is a theft, and it is how guns get in the wrong hands.  Obviously the officer made a mistake in security, but that is no reason for the local PD to over react and the press to make it sound like Ronnie Barrett lost a 500 lot load of his finest.

A Glock in the hand is worth two in the truck!

I believe it would be an AR15, that's the correct nomenclature. Not AR15 Assault rifle.....
I can assault you with a single shot 22 if I wanted and we don't call that a chipmunk assault rifle...
