christmas bonus question, which would you rather get?
« on: December 18, 2011, 12:44:40 AM »
All values being equal.

cash, a gift card to a chain resterant, gift card to a major retailer, or a gift card to a major box store?

which would you and your family prefer?

Depends om who its for. If its someone who needs the money I'd go with either cash or a gift card to Wally World where they can get anything from DVDs to diapers.

I would rather get cash or GC to Home Depot, but a GC to WW would probably work for most people.

Unless the gift card is to the local gun store, Midway, or Brownells, then I say cash.  Then again, I'm an odd duck.  I say that because I'm the only guy in America that would rather go to a local restaurant than a chain.  If I'm in ______ for a couple of days, I want to eat where the locals eat.

Then again, if you're buying...

I can spend $25 cash anywhere I want or at multiple places for anything I want or save it and have it earn it's pittance of interest.

I can spend a $25 gift card at only one place and only on what they sell.

Seems an easy choice to me.

When are you sending it?  Everyone knows that all you guys in Kalifornia are rich.

Home Depot/Lowes.. Seriously, if they "need" the money, and will use it for "needs", cash. If prone to wander, a Gift Card to the wife..
With friends like these, who needs hallucinations!..

You don't have to get the gift card from any retailer. There are AMEX and VISA gift cards that can be used anywhere.
The person could buy clothes, gas, dinner, guns...whatever.
You can say lots of bad things about pedophiles; but at least they drive slowly past schools.

My bonus has always been in the 10% of my salary range until last year.

Last year we got a boot in the ass and the asshole closed the shop for three weeks.  A bonus would have been rather silly after losing $4000.00 in income for the three weeks out.

Cash for anything is always better than a gift card.  Gift cards will sometimes charge you 5 bucks to activate and some have an end date that you have to pay attention to.

If you're giving out over 600 bucks, your employee has to pay taxes.
