Help my Daughter earn a MacBook for her Classroom
« on: December 24, 2011, 12:23:17 PM »
My daughter needs your help in her attempt to earn a MacBook computer for her classroom.  It doesn’t cost anything to assist.  There is a funding source that will pay for the computer based upon voting support.  The most popular projects based upon the voting get funded.

• Just go to www.oo.com
• On the top banner there is a sign-up link.  Go to that and register your email.
• Once registered, on the same banner there is a link next to the blue ribbon called “Shop Save Give”
• Click on “Shop Save Give”
• That will take you to a page with that name.
• On the left side there is a box that has search filters. Look for “Project Status”
• Check the box in front of “Non-Funded”
• My daughter’s project should be at or near the top.  It says “Hook Us A MacBook, Please!” and the school is Odyssey Charter School, Brooklyn Ctr, MN.

You can vote once a day so please check again tomorrow and see if she needs more votes.  Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

FYI - If you voted for her project I want to pass along her thanks.  The computer just reached the funding target.  Thankks again.

Merry Christmas!

Does this mean they got it, or we need to keep voting daily for them to get it?

Looks like they got it, and voting is no longer possible for that project.

Thanks, it got funded.  This was her highest priced project yet. I’m really proud of her initiative.  She works in a charter school.  She is a TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) teacher.  This is her second year teaching.  The school didn't have a program before they hired her so she had no materials and no budget.

In Minnesota, charter schools are public schools.  They are publically funded but are not part of a school district.  They only receive the per pupil funding provided by the State of Minnesota.  They have no taxing authority and they are forbidden from charging students to attend.

The school buys second-hand refurbished computers from the Minnesota prison system worked on by inmates. The school has just one computer lab shared with 260 K-8 students, so access to technology is limited. By having this computer in her room, students can take turns using reading programs and use the other teaching aids she has received while she provides one-on-one attention to other students.

She discovered a couple of web sites that connect classroom teachers to people, groups and foundations that have money to donate.  Over the last 18 months through donor sites like to this one she has gotten over $9000 of technology, books, and software.  It didn't cost taxpayers anything.

She isn’t big on guns. She tolerates my addiction.  It was good that she went over the top because of the support of gun people.  She wanted me to pass along her thanks!
