My Little Corner of the World (lots of pics)
« on: April 02, 2008, 12:50:13 PM »
Here are a few pics of 35 acres I just bought a few months ago.  Had a beautiful day today and thought I would take some pictures and show you guys.  Nothing special, but it is special to me.  The picture of the target is where I shoot my handguns.  Notice the cedar trees behind it that already have been shot down!  (And ignore the groups, please!) The wife and I planted a bunch of clover (not near the targets!) in the hopes of bagging more deer this year.  If you recall, I bagged an 8 pointer and she a doe last year on this land.  Anyway, I have done a ton of work on this place.  We bought a DR Field and Brush Mower and my wife and I cleaned most of the land you see here up with it.  There were briers taller than I am, and I am 6 ft 2.  Anyway, we got it looking pretty good now.

I am VERY jealous!

How much clover are you thinking of planting?  Remember to try to think of water, pevailing winds and trees stand placement when planting (you already know this, I bet).

I would LOVE to get my hands on some land and yours even has water!  NICE NICE NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like a great place to go hunting. You should probably see more then a couple deer next season.

Oh my that is breathtaking..
Congratulations on your piece of heaven.

Looks kinda like our property..as we have a 3 mile river running through ours that looks like a place from the "land before time"..
I will post pictures after it greens up.. we are burning (for sure) tonight and it will be black for a few days..  :P

Gunman.. isn't it fantastic to go out and clean and work on your place? I know from experience that it just fills your soul with something that you can't get elsewhere. And then afterwards.. to just take it all in.. the open.. the green, the river..the wondrous never ending marvels of God earth...........sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh :)

Once again.. it is an awesome piece of ground.. Enjoy every minute of it..

Thanks to you all.

Yes, Marshal'ette, working on your own property gives you a sense of doing something productive, for yourself, and not for somebody else.  It is so much more full-filling than working at a job.  This place was an overgrown mess when we bought it, and it has taken us a long time to get it looking decent.

HazCat, we planted 1/2 acre of clover, and we are planning on planting at least that much corn.

Thanks again.

Great place!  Thanks for the pictures.  What part of the country are you in?
We've got thirty acres in upstate NY that we've been working on for about six years now so I know what you mean.  We are planning on building our own homestead and moving there next year, a lot of work for an old guy.

Nice place Gunman.
Where is it? Looks like a place I hunted this last year out in Montana.
My wife and I sold our "farm" in New Hampshire two years ago. Our land was on a pond and split by another piece of water. We had it for about 28 years and my wife's Grandfather had it since the 40s. The old farm stead burned down a while ago, but we still had the cottage to use.
We still miss it. But we were glad to see it go when it did.
I know you will enjoy your place. Looks as if you already are.

Gorgeous place, almost brought tears to my eyes. I had a 147 acre cattle ranch with a perfect built in target range - flat land on a creek oxbow with 200 foot hills about a 140 yards from the fence. I had to sell, it still miss it. Here's a snap. OK, the range is to the left of this pictue, but you get the idea.

Congrats on the great looking place. Enjoy.
