MidwayUSA sets a new personal record.
« on: January 11, 2012, 10:00:29 AM »
I placed an order after dinner last night, went to check the tracking number today to see when to expect it.  UPS said "on the truck for delivery".  :D  to my door in 16 hours for standard shipping.

Yes, I am pretty close, but still.  Less than an hour from order placed to on the truck.
"Why are you carrying a pistol?  Expecting trouble?"

"No Maam.  If I was expecting trouble, I'd have a rifle."

Doesn't Mr. Potterfield say "Order by six - On the truck that day."?
If I appear taller than other men it is because I am standing on the shoulders of others.

Maybe not by much, but definitely after six.

They shipped same day Christmas eve, too.  But UPS didn't...

I admire Larry for his efforts in getting orders filled, but I got a better story from B&H Photo in NYC.

They had a special of "no shipping" on TripLite UPSs.   I ordered 4 of them which weighed in around 140# total.

I ordered them at 4pm one afternoon.  The NEXT morning I sat down at my desk and was reading the email from B&H about how my order had shipped.  Just then the telephone rang and the receptionist informed me that UPS had just delivered 2 very heavy boxes.

18 hours from on-line order entry to a store in NYC to delivery in Marietta, GA.  (and no, they do not have a warehouse in Atlanta.)   And remember "free shipping".

Okay so it was a one time deal, where TripLite (the manufacturer) had the units staged at every major UPS hub.  Still, rather impressive though.

If you've never been to B&H and are planning on being in NYC, you need to add it to your itinerary.  It's an amazing place.  First of all it's huge.  Like Cabela's for camera geeks.  Plus, the whole store is connected by a conveyor belt system.  So if I'm at a counter any where in the store and a customer wants to see an item that's not on display, I can call it up from the warehouse and within a couple minutes it appears at my counter.  Very cool.

J&R is another good one.  It takes up a city block like B&H, but it's broken up into separate stores (computers, audio, photo, etc.).  Not quite as impressive as B&H, but they're open on Saturday.

Only thing about B&H is you need to check there web site before you go.  They close for all the Jewish holidays.  And I mean close the store, the web site ordering, and the warehouse.  I admire them for their commitment.

Good point.

Might I also add that there's a little diner around the corner that's pretty good?
