So this begs the question, how much ammuntion should you have sitting in your personal inventory?

A years worth of shooting?  Enough Self Defense rounds to last you five years?

I know there are those that have HUGE stock piles, I'm envious, but what is your bare minimum?

As much as I can get.

I have a lifetime supply of ammo so I don't worry about prices going up. I just need some fresh SD ammo once in awhile.

Getting really, really close...to "about" enough
Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."
Col. Jeff Cooper.

Bare minimum? And this is a serious answer to a serious question, it's as much as I can comfortably move. That translates to about 300 rounds for the the AR, 100 in 9mm for the Glocks, the same in shot shells for the 12 gauge, and a 500 round brick of .22. It also includes about 20-50 rounds for my deer rifle and other handguns, and 500 for my pellet guns. (This obviously assumes I have my truck). Minus the truck? 6 loaded mags for the AR and the Glocks. Not an arsenal, just enough to last awhile if you're careful.

OMG!!!!  :o

I tend to agree with FQ on this one. Though my opinion may be skewed. I am always accused of being a minimalist. Though I would hesitate to put an exact number on things, "as much as you can comfortably move" is not a bad way to say it. Although I would take out the comfortably, and simply say as much as you can move. In a worst case scenario ammunition will not only be a useful tool for hunting, but your primary means of self defense, and probably your most valuable form of currency. So in a bugout situation, I wouldn't want to leave any of it behind.

I agree on the "as much as you can move" philosophy.  I've held a fork truck license and they don't move that fast so if you need one to carry your ammo, you're pretty much screwed!

Today, I have far less than I want but an adequate supply for the moment.
