The widow of a man on United Airlines Flight 93, which crashed into a field in Pennsylvania after being hijacked on 9/11, blasted actor Mark Wahlberg for saying he would have thwarted the terrorists on the plane had he been there.

This is nothing new, but be prepared for it to continue to escalate.  With the growing focus on the drama and extreme in "entertainment" I see more and more of this type of attitude in people. 

Entertainment has become like drugs:  Each new season brings more flash, more noise, and more drama.  Just show me how something is done, how it happened, or how it is made.  I don't need 75% of the dialog bleeped, I don't need the constant adrenaline rush, I don't need to watch everyone's testosterone high, and I don't need to see the deep disfunction and hate in every family and group.

Whalberg was hyping his movie and his persona for the betterment of his career.  That is what actors do in interviews.  However, our society has no personality of its own, so everyone thinks they need to act that way.  Superman was a fictional character, and he wasn't based on you or your life.  Sorry Markie, but if I want to see a bunch of macho one-liners I'll tune into Tom Cruise movie.

Marky Mark can probably handle himself pretty well in Dorchester but other than that, he's just another big mouth actor with an agenda!  He's scheduled to have a sit down with Whitey Bulger too I hear!  There are a few families a bit upset about that one!

IIRC, Markie is one of those upstanding class acts that has to have a court order in order to be allowed to handle the weapons in his movie, what with him being a felon and all. Loser!

By the age of 13, Wahlberg had developed an addiction to cocaine and other substances.  At 15, he harassed a group of black school children on a field trip by throwing rocks and shouting racial epithets.  When he was 16, Wahlberg approached a middle-aged Vietnamese man on the street and, using a large wooden stick, knocked him unconscious (while calling him "Vietnam f....k shit"). He also attacked another Vietnamese man, leaving him permanently blind in one eye, and attacked a security guard (again using racist language).  For these crimes, Wahlberg was charged with attempted murder, pleaded guilty to assault, and was sentenced to two years in jail at Boston's Deer Island House of Correction, of which he served 45 days.  In another incident, the 21-year-old Wahlberg fractured the jaw of a neighbor in an unprovoked attack.

     There is slomething to say about the old studio system of the early 20th century. The big studio mogals had a handle on things and depending on the actors value to the industry - either you were handled or you were sent packing back to where ever you came from.

     These actors and actress do have a right to express their ideas BUT  as a potential role model for their audencies - they should think twice about spouting off. Does anyone remember Sandra Locke  who starred with Clint Eastwood in several of his films. It was reported that she broke up his marrage of 20+ years and shortly after that Locke was never heard of again in hollywood. She was getting into producing films and then  "out of here".

     What actor/actress of today is too valuable to "fail" ? Even Tom Hanks  walks a fine line in his support of candidates.

As far as Marky Mark is conserned I haven't been a fan since he took a shot at an MTV awards show at Charlton Heston, back in '98 IIRC.  Speaking out against gun violence when you make a living off of movies that portray nothing but gun violence is the Height of Hypocracy!

I'm not coming to MarkieMark's defense, but he did retract his comment by noting it was a stupid and insensitive thing to say.  Stupid and insensitive sounds like a pretty good assessment.  It's a shame he was so late in making it.

Why we give these Hollywood douche-bags (male or female) any credibility is beyond me.  They make their livelihood by reciting words other people write.   

My Grandma used to say about these sorts of people: "They don't have the sense God gave geese."
