M1 Carbine Banned In America
« on: January 22, 2012, 01:17:08 PM »
January 22, 2012: After over two years of negotiations, South Korea has finally received permission to export antique (over 50 years old) American military rifles back to the United States. South Korea has been given permission to sell 87,310 M1 Garand rifles to American collectors. The U.S. still refuses to allow South Korea to export 770,160 M1 Carbines to collectors in the United States. That's because the M1s can only hold eight .30 caliber (7.62mm) bullets while the carbines use a magazine (holding up to 30 rounds). The M1 Carbine can also be easily modified to fire automatically. While not outlawed in the United States, M1 Carbine imports are usually banned.

Bold is mine.  Is it true?

Imports? Imports? ? ? ?

These belong to the US of A, not to Korea, they are simply giving them back. These are not imports, these represent millions of dollars of US investment.

And, no, Haz, it ain't true. That's like saying the ARs we carry can "easily" be converted to fire full auto. What the Feds are trying to do is say that since these Carbines predate all of the anti-gun ownership rules, there may be some enterprising soul who may find a way, they the .gov will simply ban them all.

One of those carbines has my name on it dammit!!!!!! There have been more than a few posts about this, and the Hildebeasts State Dept....blocking and/or impeding their shipment.

Nov. can't get here soon enough,....a new POTUS, a new admin,....need to adhere to "real stimulus"......

Send 770,000+ M1 Carbines over, and 80,000 Garands.....(all C&R eligible),...

The dealers jacking the current price, will have no choice but to lower their prices for existing inventory, if one can go back to the CMP, or J&G, or SOG, and get another Garand and Carbine.....from Korea....

When I saw a "fair" condition Saginaw Carbine for over $1200........here at a local gun shop,....I told him I can't wait until these get shipped, and for his $1200, I'll get two from the CMP......with extra mags and ammo.

I will not be getting a Christmas card from him,.... ;)

You realize I hope that these Garand's have been used hard for 50+ years.
Don't expect to get any "collector grade" guns, they are most likely worn out.

TW ,You will not get any M1 Carbines from CMP at any price.
They ran out over a year ago.

Considering the S. Koreans re-armed with modern platforms decades ago, these have been mothballed like Moisin Nagants...

Worn out is fine, as national retail resources for parts can still be had to rebuild it. The consumer demand is there.

While true, the CMP is "out" of carbines, today,.....don't you agree a substantial portion of  700,000+ won't end up in the oldest National Civilian Marksmanship Program in Anniston, AL?

Or J&G? Those dealers that can get some,... will..., and I like the numbers....It's not just a "few" thousand,......

IF the Carbines are eventually allowed in, which will not happen during this administration, CMP will not get any unless the Gov does the importing which I doubt will happen.
Most likely the importer is some one like J&G in which case CMP will get none.

Read about this on another forum. I am looking forward to them coming in to help reduce the price. Bummer about the carbines though.

They were made by the USA and sold to the Koreans. I am hoping there are some gems in the pack.  ;D

One thing about this that gets overlooked.
A lot of WWII production was done with the understanding that equipment sent overseas would not be reimported to the US.
The manufacturers were worried about surplus material flooding the market and killing post war orders for civilian products there by creating an economic crisis.

While it may not seem to apply to classic fire arms the agreements did not have an expiration date.
The M1 carbines might have had a better chance if they were not still being made .
