Janich in Mountain View???
« on: January 23, 2012, 01:48:00 PM »
Mike,

Will you be instructing the MBC skills seminar at the end of February? I'm just under a three hour drive from the class and I might be able to make the class. Also, is this class at all for beginners, or is prior martial arts training recommended?

Yes, I will be teaching in Mountain View, CA in February. The course is being hosted by Fairtex gym and will present instruction on my Martial Blade Concepts (MBC) system of defensive knife tactics and selected skills from my Counter-Blade Concepts (CBC) curriculum, which addresses empty-hand defenses against knives. All students are welcome and no prior training is required. Here's the information from the schedule page on my web site:

25-26 February 2012, Fairtex Muay Thai Fitness, Mountain View, California – Martial Blade Concepts Progressive Skills Seminar

In this two-day seminar, Michael Janich will present comprehensive instruction in the fundamental skills of his MBC system and the progressive training methods necessary to make them into defensive reflexes.

This course will provide step-by-step instruction in the fundamental skills of using a knife as a defensive weapon, including knife carry, high-speed deployment, recognition and identification of common street attacks, defensive responses, anatomical targeting, and the realities of knife stopping power. Building on this foundation, it will introduce progressive training methods and reflex training drills to accelerate skill development and combat reflexes. Finally, it will include detailed instruction in MBC's close-quarters reverse-grip system and the methods of adapting that system to improvised weapons, including kubotans, pens, and tactical flashlights.

Students should bring purpose-designed training knives (ideally folding trainers that closely replicate your carry knife) and eye protection.

For registration information, please contact:

Fairtex Muay Thai Fitness, Mountain View

I hope to see you there!

Stay safe,

Mike
