Popular Mechanics - Home Sweet Fortress
« on: January 24, 2012, 07:48:17 AM »
Feb 2012 issue Page 18 they are running a Home Sweet Fortress article.
There are 7 things they point out - Items 1, 4, 5, 6 are specifically gun related - so more than half and I'd say positive gun related.

1) If you own a gun for self defense - prepare.
- Goes on to say basically if you own one - use it and be familiar.

4) Designate a safe room
- Have a gun in it and a good flashlight.

5) Store your gun somewhere accessible, and with a flashlight.
- Goes on to say would be wise to have a weapon mounted light and a good quality hand held with the gun

6) Know your local laws for self defense.
- "Every bullet you fire has a lawyer attached to it"

I was surprised that such a magazine would publish so much about personal protection AND be pro-gun. Not once did they recommend cower in a corner and wait for the police to never show up.

I am going to have to pick that one up when I get to the store!

Popular Mechanics used to be a very very good magazine.  Then in the 80's they went mainstream, but they have always held on to a little bit of common sense.

how many have picked up extra insurance for ccw or your homeowners as rumors say unless you have a clear clear case in Self defense it could cost you the price of a new pickup in lawyer fees. Seems the BGs get most of the breaks at our expense :'( :-X

No.
Like all insurance, and preparedness, it all boils down to risk. Also with the new castle doctrine and more recently the new laws allowing concealed carry w/o a license. I live in a state that actually believes innocent until proven guilty. We have been passing law after law strengthening the 2A and protecting citizens that refuse to be victims. Fortunately we have common sense laws, and a state that encourages citizens to be proactive in their own well being.
I am a member of my nation's chosen soldiery.
God grant that I may not be found wanting,
that I will not fail this sacred trust.
