When they start giving interviews we may wish the troops had shot the "hostages" as well .
But I will admit a certain cynicism, they may actually be grateful, like the Medical students in Grenada.

That had already crossed my mind.. Remember those volunteer "Human Shields" that went to Iraq, and those "hikers" on the border between there and Iran? Those were college educated _______s, too..

I heard a BBC interview with the head of whatever organization they worked for. He stated repeatedly that they had been negotiating "diplomatically" for the release of their people, and that he was "very happy" that they were now safe. When asked if they were aware that there was going to be a rescue, he said, "We knew something like that might occur, but we had absolutely nothing to do with it".
Throughout the several-minute interview there was not one phrase, nor even one word that implied any gratitude.
I got the blues as my companion.

I'm going to be a really callous a__hole here. On the subject of human shields. At least in the context of these college indoctrinated idiots that go to war zones and stand in front of the enemy so we won't open fire. Doesn't that make them traitors? Isn't that giving aid and comfort to the enemy? And if they are standing on the enemy line on a battlefield, wouldn't that make them enemy combatants? I say YES and act accordingly.  >:(
I am a member of my nation's chosen soldiery.
God grant that I may not be found wanting,
that I will not fail this sacred trust.

I don't think brainwashed pacifists can be considered "combatants".
I think the proper term is "collateral damage".
In case you are wondering, "Oops" does cover that.  ;D
