Once is a cautionary curiosity. Twice in a fortnight is a cringe-worthy trend. To wit: a co-worker was lowering a nail gun—one with a disabled safety—down to Jeff Luptak. The construction worker reached up. He hit the trigger, driving a nail three inches into his melon. Due to the lucky angle of the threepenny projectile and the skill of Luptak’s neurosurgeons, he’s recovering from the cranial intrusion. Speaking to startribune.com, Dr. Tariq Janjua said the nail lodged “‘in the middle of the brain’s two hemispheres, just grazing major artery vessels.’ Had the nail gone any direction either way, he added, Luptak’s story would have ended much differently.” How long before OSHA mandates and eight-hour training class and a five-day waiting period for a D51238K?

Some years back I watched a show where two construction guys were working together doing some framing.  One on the ladder with the nail gun and the other steadying the ladder.  The first slipped on a rung and swung the gun backwards to gain his balance hitting the second guy in the chest putting a 16 penny nail into his heart. 

Knowing they were in trouble, the first guy got the second guy into his truck and sped off looking for help.  They ended up hopping a curb to get a cops attention and then rushed the guy to the hospital.

He survived the shot to the heart because the DID NOT try and remove the nail!

I worked construction while in high school.  The list of crew injuries past and present (as of then) accumulated was as impressive as it was scary.  Missing fingers, falls, nails shot into various body parts, it's a long list.  A nailgun that goes into sudden burst mode is kind of scary.  It also leaves a divet in a boot from about 3 ft up.

Whatever is stuck in you, don't pull it out.

 I had a double tap with a nail gun one time and the nail hit me in the hand nest to my index finger. I thought it went in the knuckle so I thought I shouldn't try to pull it out. I showed the fella I had working for me and asked if he would drive me to the doctors, No help! he almost passed out when he looked at it.
 When i got to the ER the doctor thought it was interesting enough to take a picture of. SOOOOOOOOO ! He went HOME to get his camera and let me sitting there to wait for him. My regular doctor came by and stuck his head in the door and said ( I here there is some one in here that has six nails on one hand) and then promptly left.. Must have been getting even for me threatening  him with bodily harm after he hurt me one visit.
 In the end the nail went around the knuckle and I just should have pulled it out and went back to work. I HATE DOCTORS

I had an ND with a staple gun at the range mounting targets....I forgot the rule "know your target and what's "behind" it,..(like my finger tip.) and thankfully it was not my trigger finger... It throbbed for a good day, and was tender for three,...

Took the NSGA, (National Staple Gun Assoc.) safety test, earned my badge, and it hasn't happened since....

Best one I came accross was a guy screwing dry wall on to a frame, he put his hand behind the dry wall to support it and missed the frame, he screwed himself to the dry wall. Going in was bad, coming out was worse LOL

a coworker was using an impact wrench to remove fairly large nuts from studs. as he would back a nut off (there were about 50) he would stick his finger into the nut while it was in the socket and then pull it out. ok. one time he pulled the trigger with his finger tip in the nut. screwed it right on to his finger. and then... reverse to get it off. (ouch)
some people should never be allowed to handle power tools. or vote. or drive... sorry.
thankfully, most power tool incidents are self inflicted. most.

I knew a guy who tried to off himself with his nailgun. It didn't work because the nail plugged the hole in his heart.
Fifteen years later (just a few weeks ago) he tried it again. I don't know what he did differently, but this time he succeeded.

There was a guy in my class in HS who, while using a two fisted 1/2 HP electric drill, managed to scalp himself while laying under his van drilling a hole through the floor!  Pretty nasty.  His hair got caught up in the chuck and yanked half his hair out by the roots.

Refer and power tools never mix well!
