Hello,

I have really enjoyed watching the "Best Defense" TV show, although I almost stopped watching when you aired the "Zombie Special". That was the first time I saw your show and lucky for me I had set up "Best Defense" on my DVR for weekly recordings or I would have missed out on a lot of valuable information.

I have built a safe room in my home and it also functions as my home based business office and I have installed wireless WIFI cameras around the home and have a large flat screen that displays all the cameras in real time in my safe room. My computers record all cameras (video and audio) that have been triggered and a audio alert is also sounded.

The amount of peace and security I feel is hard to describe, and of course it will transmit images to my smart phone too.  I have the necessary weapons if needed to defend my family and myself and the cameras make a huge difference when trying to identify friend or foe.

I was sitting in a casino one day with my wife enjoying the cheap food, and I thought if cameras everywhere was a good idea for the casino, it would be a good idea for my family and my self's safety.

I hope that someday you may touch on the advantages of video/audio surveillance systems. Most entry level setup are about $100 and many of the companies will offer configuration setups for a small fee, so you don't have be a computer geek to have this advantage in home defense.  I also hope that your attorney can talk about on the pros/cons on having recorded information about an incident that may have caused the home owner to use lethal force in defending his family.

I think you have an outstanding TV production and I look forward to future episodes.

Thank You for your hard work and great information for providing the "Best Defense" !

Dear Chevy0112:

Thank you for your e-mail and your suggestion. If we are fortunate enough to have a season 5, I do plan to address video cameras and other home security measures.

Just to clarify, the "Zombie Special" was on "Shooting Gallery," not "The Best Defense." Please give blame where it is due...

Stay safe,

Mike

Michael,

I'm sorry about confusing the wrong TV show in regards to the "Zombie Special".

On a side note about home security, I have had the pleasure of living with some older people as roommates in the past (I'm in my 50's, so they are... lets say (edited to be politically correct)... elderly). I'm not sure of the reason, but many of my roommates at that time seemed to be brought as a young people, that if someone (I mean anyone) knocks on your front door, you must open the door and see what they want! I tried on may occasions to outline the dangers of these actions, but 5 minutes later, they were opening the door to anyone (newspaper salesperson or active shooter, it did not matter to them). I finally installed a dead bolt locked on both sides. There were 5 other exits for them, so I was not concerned about a fire escape/safety issue.  After installing the new dead bolt (key locked on both sides with no key), someone knocked on the front door. Afterwards, I asked one roommate why they did not use a different door or the garage door to greet the stranger. The roommate replied " They did not knock on the garage door!" :)

The point of this story is, video surveillance is very helpful to you and your family in identifying who is at your door. I have found that some strangers that knock on your door and they see you through a window, will almost knock you door down if they know someone is at home and is not or refusing to answer the door.

Of course you can do what my neighbor does, if anyone knocks on her door, she just calls the police! The police arrive at her home about 5 times week, she always claims that someone is trying to break into her home! Someday when she truly needs assistance, the police will be the last to arrive.

Michael and Mike, I will be looking forward to your new shows on home and personal security tips.

Thank You, keep up the good work!
